Prenatal Screening

The Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), together with relevant professionals have developed the website PNS. This website guides the visitor in simple and clear steps through the information on prenatal screening for Down's, Edward's and Patau's syndrome and the 20-week ultrasound scan. This site also includes a checklist "Informed choice" (Bewust Kiezen).

It was decided, in consultation with the Programme Commission Prenatal screening and the professional associations, to inform pregnant woman about the website prior to the first counselling session. This will ensure that pregnant women will be able to ask the midwife or gynaecologist more substantive and/or informed questions during the counselling session, which will improve the quality of the counselling session.
